The impact of diabetes has spread to such an extent that “There may be homes without sugar, but there are no homes without diabetes”. The number of people suffering from diabetes is increasing day by day throughout the world. According to the World Health Organization, one out of 10 people in the world may be suffering from diabetes.

What is diabetes?

Nutrients from the food we eat are absorbed into our body through digestion. In this the starches are broken down and digested into general glucose that enters the cells. “Insulin” is the hormone that does the job of converting this starch into glucose. This insulin is secreted from the pancreas adjacent to the gallbladder in the abdominal region of the body. It contains both ductal and non-ductal glands. The pancreas contains specialized tissues called ‘Langerhans patches’. Beta cells secrete insulin, alpha cells secrete glucagon, and delta cells secrete hormones.

Exocrine gland constitutes 95% of the two major glands in the pancreas. Produces enzymes needed for digestion. Endocrine Glands  5% are prevalent. It carries hormones into the bloodstream to various tissues in the body. The pancreas secretes the necessary enzymes to digest the food, What  we eat.

That is, both Tryspin and Chymotrypsin break down the protein in the food and convert it into peptides through the pancreatic duct. Amylose converts carbohydrates in food into glucose.

Lipase converts dietary fat into lipids. All these are absorbed by the intestines and directly mixed into the blood.

In this, when insulin is not secreted in the required amount, glucose is mixed directly in the blood. When the amount is high, it is excreted in the urine. Also, the amount of glucose that cannot enter the cells becomes too high, causing the kidneys to gradually fail to excrete urine. As a result, the blood sugar level increases and affects all the organs from the head to the feet.

In general, the average person’s blood sugar range is between 60 and 110 before meals. 80 to 140 may be after meals.

Types of diabetes

The types of diabetes can be divided into two. Namely Type 1 and Type 2.

Type 1:

This type of disease is caused by persistent lack or complete absence of insulin. Beta cells in our body determine our Mental states. Keeping our mental state stable can prevent the destruction of beta cells. Often this disease is inherited from parents to children. Only 5 percent to 10 percent of people who suffer from this type 1 disease.

Type 2:

This type of disease is caused by “insulin” deficiency. It can also come down to genetics. This type of disease is more likely to occur in people who have excess fat in the diet, lack of nutrition, depression, eating at wrong time and obesity. 90 percent to 95 percent of people are suffering from this type 2 Diabetes.
